Head Coach Brian Gregory, Billy Schmidt And The University Of Dayton Land Former Thornton Star Josh Parker, A Drake Transfer

Chicago Hoops - April 18, 2009

Head coach Brian Gregory, and the University of Dayton, have landed former Thornton High School basketball star Josh Parker, who will be transferring from Drake University. Parker ranked among the top 2007 basketball prospects in the state of Illinois as a high school senior.

Parker, a 6'0" guard, averaged nearly 11 points per game this past season as a sophomore. In high school, Parker teamed with Mustapha Farrakhan (Virginia) to form one of the top backcourt duo's in the state of Illinois, and led Thornton all the way to the Elite 8 of the IHSA Class AA state tournament before ultimately falling to Derrick Rose (Chicago Bulls), and Chicago Simeon.

Parker, who is on his way back home from his visit to the Dayton campus today, told ChicagoHoops.com that the style of play at Dayton, the coaching staff, and the whole atmosphere all played a role in his decision to attend Dayton. Parker said, "It's my style!"

Parker will join a Dayton program that finished with a record of 27-8 this past season while competing in the always tough Atlantic 10 Conference. He will join a Dayton program that currently features Phillip "Mickey" Perry (Proviso East) and Luke Fabrizius (Hersey).

Parker will have two years of eligibility remaining after sitting out next season per NCAA rules.
