Class Of 2011 Thornton Star Jay Parker Is Already Generating A Great Deal Of Buzz Among College Recruiters, And Is Ready For A Repeat Run Downstate
BY Chicago Hoops - September 23, 2009

Class of 2011 Thornton star Jay Parker of the Mac Irvin Fire is already generating a great deal of buzz among college recruiters, and easily rates as one of the top basketball prospects in a loaded Illinois Class of 2011.
Parker, a 5'8" point guard, is a dazzling floor leader who dominates opponents both with his ability to penetrate the lane, and also with his jump shot, which he drops with range out beyond the three-point arc.
Parker, who has been a mainstay on the varsity for Thornton since his freshman year, is already quite popular among college recruiters, and is hearing from a number of schools including Wisconsin, Xavier, Dayton, Marquette, Hawaii, Northern Iowa, and Providence.
Parker, and his backcourt mate Reggie Smith, rate as one of the elite backcourt duo's in the state of Illinois. Parker has a firm grasp on why he clicks so well together with Smith. "I think it's because we both play hard all the time. We know what we have to do in order to led our team to a win, and we both don't like losing, so I guess that determination in both of us makes us play well together," said Parker.
Last year, after opening the season with a loss, Thornton reeled off 29 straight wins en route to holding down the #1-ranking in the state of Illinois, and advancing all the way to the Final Four of the IHSA Class 4A state tournament. Parker is eyeing a repeat of Thornton's downstate run this season.
Parker is part of a loaded group of prospects capable of running the point in the Illinois Class of 2011. A group that includes Parker, Tracy Abrams (Chicago Mt. Carmel), George Marshall (Chicago Brooks), Ryan Boatright (East Aurora), Donivine Stewart (Limestone) and Tywon Pinckney (Chicago Simeon).
